Factors affecting the quality of sandpaper
The quality of sandpaper is largely determined by the properties of the abrasive, such as the size, hardness, toughness and shape of the abrasive. Sandpaper abrasives generally range in size from European Standard (FEPA), American Standard (CAMI), JIS (Japanese Standard), and Russian Standard (GOST).
Take European particle size standards as an example, the standards are developed by the European Federation of Abrasives Manufacturers (FEPA):
Coarse sand: P80, P60, P50, P40, P 36, P30, P24, p20, p16
Medium sand: P280, P240, P220, P180, P150, P120, P100
Fine grinding: P600, P500, P400, P360, P320
Super fine grinding: P1500, P1200, P1000, P800
In addition to the abrasive factors, the material of the matrix, the degree of tear resistance, the elongation; the use of bonding additives, the addition of special filler materials can improve the cutting performance of the sandpaper.
The application of the additive layer (supercoat) also affects the quality of the sandpaper. The supercoating can reduce the friction in the area where the wear debris is formed, reduce the wear of the abrasive, and lower the temperature of the grinding zone to avoid discoloration of the workpiece due to excessive temperature.
