Coated abrasive product storage method
The matrix and some of the binders in the manufacturing process are sensitive to the weather, and the relative humidity according to their environment may become drier or damp.
Coated abrasives are best stored and used within the recommended temperature and humidity range. They have the best performance at 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and 40%-50% relative humidity.
When storing, make sure that all coated abrasives do not touch the concrete floor directly, away from moisture, away from hot pipes and heat sources.
Impact of abnormal storage
Transitional moisture: can cause the binder or resin to soften, and also soften the filler material inside the substrate. During the grinding process, the abrasive will be pressed against the substrate instead of being pressed against the workpiece being ground, reducing the grinding efficiency. . Friction heat makes the binder softer. Coated abrasives are stored for a long time in a relatively high humidity environment with a 50% reduction in life.
Transition dry: Will reduce the flexibility of the product, causing difficulty in use. The narrow belt will curl or twist. When it is too dry, it will become cup-shaped (bending to the back). Paper products, especially heavy paper products, are stored for too long. In the environment, it loses its flexibility and becomes very brittle, and water-resistant sandpaper is also affected by this.
For cloth-based belts and grinding discs, if the moisture contained in the substrate is too high, it will bend to the back and become unsuitable for use. The abrasive tape of the adhesive and resin binder will also bend to the back when it is too moist. Excessive drying will bend in the opposite direction.
Note
In addition to ensuring the temperature
for your coated abrasives, you should also note the following important tips to extend the life of your unused coated abrasives:
Coated abrasives should be stored in a closed carton before use.
Bulk rolls should be laid flat and not stacked. Cardboard boxes, boxes and wrapped rolls should remain intact in use. The belt should be hung on a special shelf.
